Surviving the Mic has operated on a volunteer basis since its inception in 2014, Funded primarily by Founder/Executive Director, Nikki Patin, the organization has provided free programming for survivors and maintained a digital presence online through much sweat equity and dedication of all who have been involved.
The five year plan below is a timeline to establish an engaged board, hire paid staff, resume in-person programming, produce and publish compelling work from survivors, and provide a retail space for survivors to sell their creative work.

Year One: July 2025-July 2026
- Establish an engaged board
- Secure operating grants to establish a steady, administrative foundation
- Gather video performances, media appearances, publications, and workshop prompts for the StM archives
- Secure accounting consultant to develop an annual budget
Year Two: July 2026-July 2027
- Implement StM Programming Plan
- 4 StM curated performance events per year
- 2 open mics
- 2 featured performers
- Curated storytelling event
- Theatrical performance
- 2 open mics
- 4 StM In-person Workshops
- 2 generative workshops
- 2 revision workshops
- 4 StM curated performance events per year
- Secure/Apply for programming grants
- Develop employee handbook
- Develop and implement hiring plan for first two full-time employees
